Looking for a volunteer opportunity that begins in September?
The co-founders and collective Tech International Charter School planning team envisions the use technology the right way: to humanize, to foster collaboration, and to create. In fact borrowing a metaphor from Thomas Friedman of The Lexus and The Olive Tree, highlighting the issues and values of the past ("the olive tree") and the technology of the future ("the Lexus"). Tech International Charter School will be a Lexus and olive tree school.
The mornings at Tech International Charter School will be as traditional "Olive Trees" using drills, practice, repetition, and quality pedagogies in 90 minutes of both mathematics and ELA instruction. Computers will support skill building in these core content areas with the goals of increasing skills, competency and test scores considerably. In the afternoon, Tech International Charter School will evolve more into a Lexus. The unique way that students will work on theme-based artifacts twice a week during PD - Project Development will allow students to individualize their learning at the levels of their curiosity and intellectual capacity.
During student PD, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, the school will use qualified volunteers to help facilitate projects under the guidance and support of adults within the TI community. The school will be looking for individuals who enjoy working with middle schoolers and have a strong interest or connection to the selected topic.
As TI moves forward in planning and scheduling the topics of PD, there will be requests for volunteers posted on the website. There will also be other opportunities at the school that may not involve students.

AFTERNOON ONE ON ONE TUTORING
Tech International Charter School, a new middle school in Kingsbrige, is currently looking for motivated and enthusiastic volunteer tutors to help 6th graders in math, reading, writing, history, and science. Under the guidance of a TI Charter teacher, tutors could be working with small groups, leading small classes, or helping students by working with them one-on-one. Possible volunteer hours would be Monday through Friday from 3:30 - 4:30PM, and 5 - 6PM. This is a wonderful opportunity to help young students succeed in their academic classes, while also serving as a positive role model and teen mentor to them. For more information, contact Steve Bergen via 781-953-9699 or sbergen33@gmail.com. Experience working with children in an educational setting is preferred.
