Teaching and Learning

Picture
The primary business of Tech International Charter School is teaching and learning. The use of technology supports the emphasis on academic skill building and increasing competency and achievement. The international focus creates unique opportunities to address the significant demographic transformation that is contributing to the dynamic multicultural phenomena in the Bronx. Technology will also provide the tools for students to travel the planet, access people throughout the world, breaching barriers, educating students on their roles in modern globalization, while also demonstrating the cultural and geopolitical significance of their own countries of heritage.

At Tech International Charter School the culture of respect for learning will radiate through the classroom and hallways. Each member of the school community is a partner in an educational journey; children, parents, teachers and administrators will each play a vital role in the success of the school. Accomplishments will be celebrated and reflection will occur upon shortcomings with the purpose of making the necessary adjustments to improve.

Tech International Charter School seeks to imbue TI PRIDE – Plan B skills, Resilience, Integrity, Dedication, and Empathy – in order to help the children of the school community become more thoughtful scholars and active citizens of the world. This will be accomplished with the support of a community that has a common belief system about the attributes of achievement. As growing learners, students will be exposed to experiences that will pave their pathways to success in high school, college and beyond.

Technology is a key design element at Tech International Charter School and will be infused into every classroom. Whether it is the use of a Smartboard, laptop, electronic reader or Alphasmart, teachers and students will be expected to embrace technology just as they would a pencil and a piece of paper. A balance of traditional and innovative methods will be used to guarantee that all learners can participate equally in instruction. The benefits of technology are boundless for all children. Because today’s K-12 students are considered “digital natives,” born and raised with technology in every aspect of their daily lives, it is empowering to capitalize on their innate ability to operate the equipment.

Tech International Charter School through its mission, goals and key design elements will be proactive to ensure progress is made. Acknowledging that the families of City School District 10 represent the global migration phenomena in America, Tech International Charter School is prepared through its curriculum, and its continuous professional development process to foster supportive relationships in the school setting to create sustainable learning communities for students’ success.

Understanding and practicing TI PRIDE will make behavioral norms easier to obtain, decrease discipline incidents, and demonstrate to each student that they are valued. These traits will be directly and implicitly taught to students. With adults throughout the community modeling these core values, students will be able to witness the effect of positive words, gestures, and actions that are all important for becoming productive members of society.

It is the school’s belief that embracing and meshing groups of people can only lead to positive interactions that will result in learning from one another. This will ultimately enable a larger number of children from the Bronx to reach their personal and academic goals, closing achievement gaps.
